Treatment Services
Residential treatment services are provided to those deemed not to need medical or observational detoxification services during the screening and intake process. Residential stays range from 30 to 45 days, except for those clients committed to treatment by the courts (Act 10) for a shorter duration, depending on the clients' individual needs.
We encourage those clients committed for the shorter durations to remain in for the full 45 day repetitive cycle of residential treatment. As in all modalities of treatment, we present and treat alcoholism and other drug addiction as a primary medical disease. We stress to clients that this disease has no cure but can be arrested with total abstinence from all non prescribed mood altering drugs coupled with long term recovery.
Relapse issues, including relapse triggers, are presented and discussed in at least three group sessions during the cycle. The clients participate in supervised recreation therapy and lectures on various pertinent and relevant topics. We also include weekly sessions on the prevention of HIV/AIDS. HIV testing is provided on site by South Arkansas Fights AIDS. Clients also receive education on STD and TB weekly. For those clients desiring to improve their literacy skills or who want to obtain a GED, adult education classes are provided on the premises by South Arkansas Community College.
All direct services are provided and facilitated by a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor or Counselor in Training under the direct supervision of a Certified Clinical Supervisor. Responsibility for one's actions is stressed throughout the treatment cycle. Attendance to 12 Step support meetings is encouraged with transportation being provided and attendance is staff supervised.
Medical treatment is provided on site by our LPN or other staff under the supervision of a doctor. Should medical issues arise beyond the scope of our staff, clients are referred to their own physician, if possible, or the emergency room at the Medical Center of South Arkansas for immediate attention.
Those clients presenting psychological problems requiring attention of a Psychiatrist or Psychologist are referred to South Arkansas Regional Health Center.
All residential clients are assessed for the presence of co-occurring substance abuse disorders. The assessment is conducted by using the MHSFIII, Mental Health Screening Form III (Modified), following the Administrative and Use Guidelines.
In residential treatment as in all modalities of treatment at South Arkansas Substance Abuse, confidentiality is strictly enforced.
A summary and explanation of the federal laws governing Confidentiality of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Client Records and the Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA) is provided upon admission.
South Arkansas Substance Abuse uses the TCU Mapping Enhanced Counseling, "Matrix", and the Evidence Based Motivational Interviewing (all evidence based programs) for all of its residential and outpatient treatment services. Our counselors have been trained in all practices.
